Lane Lee Marshall

(1937-2003)

Born: September 19, 1937, Syracuse, New York,

Died: June 10, 2003, Topeka, Kansas, at age 65

Lane served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1963, with 18 months of active duty.

After active duty, He attended the University of Florida. He received the first Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Florida. His master%u2019s was from the University of Illinois.

Lane founded his landscape design firm in Sarasota, Fla., in 1961, and practiced there for 20 years. It was during this period that he designed a number of golf courses, all of which were located in Florida. Concurrent with his foray into golf design, he was very active in commercial landscape design.

He was a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), the organization%u2019s national president (1978-1980), and received the ASLA %u201CPresident%u2019s Medal%u201D for outstanding contributions.

In the early 1980%u2019s he closed his landscape design firm to assume a position in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Texas A&M University.

Lane left Texas A&M to become dean of the Kansas State University College of Architecture and Design where he served from July 1989 to August 1995 at which point he resigned for medical reasons.
